MLK Jr. Blvd. Is One of Our Most Dangerous Corridors
MLK Jr. Blvd. has been the site of multiple serious collisions involving pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders over the past several years, only a few have been documented in the media:
Transit Bus Crash (Dec. 2024)
Fatal Pedestrian Collision (May 2023)
Serious Pedestrian Injury (March 2022)
First-Person Account: Hit in a Crosswalk on MLK (March 2021)
New Road Design for MLK is Coming
The North–South Bus Rapid Transit (NSBRT) project will run along MLK Jr. Blvd, adding dedicated bus lanes, upgraded transit stations, and new walking and biking connections along the corridor. Final design is underway, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and service launching in 2029, according to the last project update. We will continue to advocate for quick build options to make this corridor safe.
Our thoughts are with the person who was struck, their loved ones, and everyone affected. No one should fear being harmed while simply moving through our community.
